1. Overview

Snap2Txt is a free OCR tool powered by Google Cloud Vision API. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle — or rather, don't handle — your data.

2. Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or log any personal data. Specifically:

  • Your images are sent securely to Google Cloud Vision API for processing and are never stored on our servers
  • Google processes the image temporarily and returns the extracted text — neither we nor Google retain your image after processing
  • Your extracted text is displayed in your browser and never sent anywhere else
  • We do not use cookies for tracking
  • We do not collect IP addresses, device info, or browsing behavior
  • No analytics data is collected beyond basic page views (via Vercel Analytics)

3. How It Works

Snap2Txt uses Google Cloud Vision API for text recognition. When you upload an image:

  1. If you enable preprocessing, it is applied locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API
  2. Your image is securely transmitted (HTTPS/TLS) to our serverless function on Vercel
  3. The serverless function forwards the image to Google Cloud Vision API for OCR processing
  4. Google extracts the text and returns it — the image is immediately discarded and never stored
  5. The extracted text is returned to your browser and displayed on screen

⚠️ Image preprocessing (grayscale, contrast, sharpening, binarization) is done locally in your browser before sending. This means only the preprocessed image is sent to the server.

4. Third-Party Services

Snap2Txt uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Cloud Vision API — Industry-leading AI OCR engine by Google. Processes images temporarily for text extraction. Google does not retain your images after processing. Google Cloud Vision Terms
  • Vercel — Hosting platform for the website and serverless API function. Processes requests but does not store image content
  • Vercel Analytics — Aggregate, non-personal page view analytics
  • Cloudflare — DNS and CDN for snap2txt.com

5. Google Cloud Vision Data Handling

According to Google's documentation, when using Cloud Vision API:

  • Images sent to the API are processed in real-time and not stored by Google
  • Google does not use your images to improve its models
  • All data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Processing happens in the Google Cloud region closest to your request

6. Children's Privacy

Since we collect no personal data, our service is safe for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. If we ever change our data practices, we will update this policy accordingly.
